Q. What happened to Recording Lair?
A. After many years in Olympia, owner Daryl Sarnat is moving to Corpus Christi, Texas,

to fulfill a longtime ambition of becoming a paramedic. He hopes to continue recording

there also, and is taking his business name and website with him.

Q. Where does that leave his Northwest clients?
A. Daryl has asked Chinook Wind Recording to take over his location recording clients.

We promised to honor any price commitments he already has in place,and to offer a 10% discount for our first service.

Q. But I need a studio!
A. Well, Chinook Wind Recording does have a small (7x9) announce booth in Tacoma for voiceover or commercial work. If you need a larger space, we recommend Pacific Studios in Tacoma (253-272-2010) for rock, hip-hop, etc. and David Lange Studios in Edgewood for acoustic, bluegrass, country and jazz.

Q. Who are you guys?
A. Chinook Wind Recording has been in business 10 years, serving mostly Pierce and South King Counties from Tacoma. We have a large roster of schools, orchestras, community bands and choirs for whom we record. (To learn more about us, click here)

Q. Do you work the same way as Recording Lair?
A. Almost exactly the same way. We record your live concert (or session) and produce a high-quality, well-packaged custom compact disc, with color artwork and a professional disc imprint.

Q. What do you charge schools and nonprofits?
A. Like Recording Lair, we usually don’t charge a recording fee up front, but rely on CD sales.  We ask $15 per CD, and request a minimum sale of 25 CDs per concert. This minimum can be averaged over an entire school year of concert season.

Q. Do you have an alternate way to pay?
A. Yes. You can choose to pay $275 as a recording fee. Then the CDs are on a sliding scale which begins at $12 (for 25 and under) and goes all the way down to $5 (for 100 or more). There is no minimum. This is a good way to go if you are selling CDs as a fundraiser.  This is also our price structure for professional and semi-pro groups.

Q. Who are your clients?
A. Our clients include 15 schools in seven districts, including the Puyallup, Tacoma, Franklin Pierce, Federal Way and Peninsula districts, and many semi-professional groups, both youth and adult, including the Renton Concert Band, Rainier Chorale, Tacoma Youth Chorus, Bellevue Youth Symphony and others.
